I also enjoyed the film, and mostly agree with your thoughts about it. The local paper reported it was considered as a possible sleeper money earner because if the high quality, but it never connected with an audience. An above average product with a can of corn return on investment.

Perhaps it suffered by being considered a "super bad" remake but with girls. Which it was, one could argue, and super bad is a tough act to follow.
