OSS 117: Cairo, Nest of Spies (2006)

This film opens with a b+w flashback from WWII with two French OSS agents who capture Top Secret Nazi blueprints for the V-2. Then we flash forward to the future: 1955. Let the parody and roasting begin!

Jean DuJardin plays OSS 117 who is an almost spitting image of the early Connery who is sent on a mission to discover why his partner from WWII (opening flashback) has disappeared.

117 encounters a busty Princess full of homocide and hormones whom he must disarm then satisfy. He flirts ferociously with the secretary of their chicken "plant" and socially gaffes his way through Muslim Cairo much to the offense of many of the characters. (In one sequence he is awakened by dawn prayer call and promptly walks across the street, climbs the tower, and wrestles the microphone away from the holy man.)

This movie is not Pink Panther silly but close. Plus it deals with the Suez Canal, Russian spies, operatives of Nasser, leftovers from King Farouk.

It's good for a couple of laughs and it immediately struck me that this was a take off more of the early 60's Bond rather than the OSS movies of yore.
