not one of my all-time favorites, but extremely well done and skillful at balancing the various plot threads. This is the first Argentinian film I have seen and it is always interesting to see a different culture. In this case, the history of the country becomes a part of the fabric of the story in a very direct way. There is some great cleverness to the writing, some of the scenes are presented as part of a novel, others as speculation, and yet others as an eyewitness account- all of these may be true or may not be true. The actors all seemed perfectly suited to their roles. I will probably see it again eventually. If I have a complaint, it is that the plot, divorced from all the stylistic tricks, is pretty basic, although it does pay off at the end.
