another thumbs up vote for Winter's Bone

Posted by PhilJ on September 14, 2010 at 20:30:07:

another very good movie (just made it to my town this week) by writer/director Debra Granik, who also wrote and directed Down To The Bone.

Winter's Bone has a similar flavor as DTTB(small town working class people and their problems) but is better all around and has some terrific performances as well. John Hawkes was unrecognizable as Teardrop the manacing uncle. I actually looked up the movie when I got home to make sure it was him because he has been so watered down in other performances I have seen him in and so good in this. Ree Dolly (played by Jennifer Lawrence) is totally believable and has a bright future.

Debra Granik is one to watch, she is a really good writer and it's pretty amazing that she also directed this subtle, assured movie.

I am just thankful movies like this get made at all and highly recommend Winter's Bone.
