I don't think you can put that series next to Sopranos, as someone suggested - I think there is ocean separating the two.
The Sopranos was nearly perfect in most respects, technically as well as from the production, directing and acting standpoints.
By comparison The Americans has all the features of a low budget production. You feel like you are watching one of the cold-war cliche-driven B-movies, with caricature-derived evil KGB men in their poorly fitted suits and uniforms.
Heck, after so many years, could the producers at least get some idea on the uniforms and interior decorations? There are scores of Russian and Soviet films that could be used as models, it is not like it's been a state secret.
And on minor note - how many days do you think that guy was lying in the trunk without a trip to bathroom? :)
