'King Arthur: LotS': Not your Boomer's Excalibur . . .

Guy Ritchie gives us a little legend, a few monsters, some magic, lots of sword action, and his usual mirth that sounds out of place for the dark ages but proves delightful if you listen for it.
This tale of Arthur starts out with Camelot being attacked by Mordred and his monstrous minions. Being dead set on killing Uther (Bana) his evil brother (Law) was in secret league with him. Poor Arthur manages to escape the fratricide and lands in the arms of the brothel girls in the town of Londinium. Here the young Arthur grows to be a tough and clever man.
Initially, I felt shocked with the opening of the film because 'Excalibur' was tattooed in my brain. Brooding, realistic, dark, and charged with monsters attacking (on occasion), Ritchie has produced an amusing film that might actually be a few minutes too long. The acting is spot on and the effects are top drawer. This is the kind of film that begs the question: Should I take popcorn or a flask to get through it.
