'Battlecreek': Small but focused story . . .

Not often do you find films that concentrate on character development but in this case that's the only reason this film exists. This simple story of a young man (Bill Skarsgard-IT clown) with a terrible skin affliction lives his at night helping out the local gas station/mechanic (Delroy Lindo-true treasure). Henry's mom (Paula Malcomson-Ray Donovan's wife) plays the possessive and suffocating mom who won't let him go.
Suddenly, a young woman appears with car troubles one night. She (Claire van der Boom) is sullen and mysterious and takes a job at the local diner where Henry eats every night. In short time, Henry is in full pursuit of Allison who resists at first.
Sure, simple enough story taking place in a very small town which offers the opportunity for massive character development. Everyone was outstanding but Paula Malcomson showed how underrated she is and Delroy Lindo was outstanding as Henry's friend and employer. (Lindo has that special quality that is always engaging.)
Low budget but good enough to hit the big screen. It should be on cable in short order.
Recommended.
