RE: 'The Punisher': just finished binge-watching season 1

Posted by user510 on December 27, 2017 at 15:07:18:

I enjoyed it immensely. In spite of the 'Marvel' moniker in front of the rest of the series title, this treatment of it has one part grounded in the realm of plausibility, while its other parts are allowed to go completely over the top. Production values are high. The script writing seems smart. The style of production is engaging. And I liked the soundtrack.

At the final episode it does seem as though this is a good place to stop the series. Story told. Resolution achieved, if very darkly. But I haven't checked to see if there will be a second season. If there is, I'd watch.

Other notes:
There are previous movies based on this Marvel Comic Book.
1989 The Punisher with Dolph Lundgren as Frank Castle
2004 The Punisher with Thomas Jane as Frank Castle
2008 The Punisher with Ray Stevenson as Frank Castle

I've seen the 2004 and 2008 versions. Both enjoyable. Although the 2008 version with Stevenson was more 'comic book fantastic' than the 2004 version. I haven't see the 1989 Dolph Lundgren version, but I would not have high expectations for it since Lundgren typically worked in low budget/low quality productions most of his career. Sorry Dolph if you're reading this.
