'Upgrade': Fun with AI

In the near future cars are driving themselves, police drones fill the skies, and life is easy for the elites. Now comes Grey and his wife Asha. He is an old school guy who hates technology and rebuilds classic muscle cars for discriminating buyers. His lovely wife works for an AI firm and has it made. One of Grey's last customers is an AI genius named Eron who is a very brooding James Dean kind of guy. Grey and Asha take Eron's latest purchase to his fabulous subterranean home. There Eron shows them his latest technology, STEM, which is a chip that can work miracles inside the human body. After Grey smarts off about AI and how he doesn't like it they leave and on the way home their automated auto takes a wrong turn and speeds up dramatically. Soon enough it flips and both Grey and Asha are pulled from their vehicle by guys in masks. Not a good sign. One shoots his wife and another shoots Grey in the neck. Grey, now a quadriplegic, is visited by Eron in the hospital. At first Grey is against having Stem implanted but soon relents in order for vengeance. From this point on the film becomes more noir with a light-handed spin on the violence and Grey's relationship with Stem.

As you may have already guessed, when Stem kicks in Grey is nearly superman. When he doesn't, Grey hits the dirt being fully quadriplegic again. When the bad guys start dropping, the main detective (Betty Gabriel of 'Get Out') smells something fishy and the great hunt is on.

Lots of action, lots of suppositions about Stem, singularity, and its effect on the human race. (A new uber race is born transcending mortal attributes.) This film is almost fun despite the violence. It's a sleeper of sort. It's interesting and entertaining along the order of 'Get Out'.
