'A Simple Favor': Not so simple . . .
Posted by Billy Wonka on September 17, 2018 at 15:26:16:
Built around the idea that Kendricks is eternally cute and Lively a knockout (she isn't in my book) this flim bounces around between comedy and whodunnit without ever qualifying for either.
Kendricks (Stephanie) is the Merry Widow who spends her days vlogging and doing school projects while Emily is the super-chic mom who "works in the city" and does little more than pick up her son from school. Stephanie admires her from afar and jumps at the chance to become closer to Emily.
Emily is very provocative (near coarse) but always captivating to Stephanie and her professor husband, Golding. Emily reveals their money "problems" even though she is an PR exec in Manhattan. One day, Emily asks for a simple favor and then disappears. Stephanie then finds out that an extra $4M of insurance was taken out on Emily. Here comes the police and insurance investigator as all trying to find out where Emily is.
This is a bizzy plot that depends on the characters not the story. So, it can wear thin.
3 wonks for mischief and mayhem
2 wanks for passable acting and occasional low ball humor
