HOLD THE DARK

In a small Alaskan village a woman is missing her boy and believes a wolf carried him off. She calls for a naturalist author and wolf expert to find and kill the offending animal. Jeffrey Wright arrives and starts his hunt for the offending wolves. Meantime, Keough's hubby (Alexander Skarsgard) is in Iraq being a psycho. When he comes home he finds that circumstances have changed and the Sheriff (Badge Dale) is now in a manhunt for a human suspect. This leads to a mysterious and compelling tale of man versus nature and man versus man. Blood will be spilled.

4.5 wonks for a compelling story, great acting, and cinematography
1 wank for having to turn up the volume as everyone nearly whispers

THE ANGEL

Based on true events! This is the story of Ashraf Marwan who was the son-in-law of Gamel Nasser and who later became a close adviser to Sadat. Needing money and honestly concerned about ME peace, he became a valuable asset to the Mossad during the seventies. This is a well-acted and compelling story of an Egyptian who did his best to balance both sides of the Arab/Israeli equation.

4 wonks for the docudrama feel, script, 70's cars, and actors
1 wank for avoiding disaster with alarming ease

SUICIDE

A young lawyer, Dafna, struggles to save her husband and family from a local, psycho loan shark. There are plenty of twist and turns with small strains of humor as everyone struggles against Muki who thinks he is Hammurabi. For twenty four hours Jerusalem is hopping town with Muki's henchmen raining havoc of clients who don't follow the rules. Mali Levi (hottie) is the ice cold attorney who dares to match wits with Muki for the life of her family. Interesting characters, especially police detective Romi who uses unusual techniques.

3.5 wonks for compelling story, different twists, fast pace
1 wank for not being Hollywood slick
