the monkey and the rings

Universal has announced that King Kong will be released on Blu-ray in January 2009. There will be a few added extra features over the HD DVD and, of course, a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 soundtrack.

Per Bill Hunt, don't expect the initial release of The Lord of the Rings trilogy to be anything but the theatrical versions. It seems that Peter Jackson wants a super-duper collector's edition for the extended edition. Release will probably be around the same time the Hobbit movies start. I know that will get a poor reception from most Rings fans, but look on the bright side: Warner Bros still hasn't announced that the audio will only be in Dolby Digital.
