New to HDTV: Upconverter question

Posted by soundnut on July 18, 2010 at 09:42:54:

Hi.

I recently purchased my first HDTV, a Panasonic TC-P46C2 720p 46" plasma. We have standard resolution Dish Network TV, and it looks decent, but I was interested in getting a bit of a picture quality boost from HD. After calling Dish Network, I found out they want over $200 to upgrade my receiver to HD, which would still only be leased to me, plus I would have to sign a 2 year agreement. Screw that...

So I looked around the internet & found an assortment of inexpensive (under $100) upconverters that claim to convert an SD signal to near HD quality.

Would one of these do what I want it to do, or does my TV already do that?

Thanks,
Bob :-)
