My guess is yes, maybe, some of the time.
I would like to know for certain, though I suspect that stereo output IS compatible with stereo DACs, however, if you get a channel with 5.1 output, then it won't be compatible.
I also wonder how that works with new material, whether the newer bluray standards are used at all for TV outs which would then necessitate buying a NEW receiver for many of us technology holdovers.
