terrific performances by leads Rosamund Pike and Peter Dinklage. In Arizona, perhaps to this day, an elderly person can be placed into the hands (claws?) of a guardian without notification of next-of-kin or, indeed, without prior notification to the ward--- if there is no family residing within the same state. An investigative piece I read a few years ago underlined the predatory and complementary work by agents to make this a ridiculously lucrative endeavor:: doctors, real estate, judges, care facility owners/managers.
In this story, a healthy, wealthy, and vigorous older lady (a scene-stealing and Oscar Supporting Actress nominee, if there's any justice) is victimized by such a ploy; it is managed by "caregiver" Rosamund Pike. Unbeknownst to her, Wiest has a very powerful, underground "friend" (Dinklage) who when he realizes what has happened, not only seeks her release, but is driven to murderous revenge.
The twists-and-turns are clever, the acting is wonderful, across-the-board. No better way to spend an evening. (Netflix) (And a "Thanks!" to Road Warrior for the recommendation).
Follow Ups:
You just flat out knew she was holding some serious cards.

despite the worthy ending.
Glad I saw it, never need see it again.
Dianne Wiest was super.
"Once this was all Black Plasma and Imagination" -Michael McClure
perfectly personified by the "law-abiding" and the "criminal.". I believe a simple takeaway would be, "not much difference, there!"
