I'd assume.
The lead, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, of Aquaman and Watchmen fame, is the real reason to see this film: a star is born. He imbues his character, a painter whose background reveals a sinister link to a grisly murder, with intelligence (the hardest trait to project, I'd argue--- just look at the 3 Chris's currently starring in so many films--- all hunks, all seemingly as vacant, dull and thoughtless as a mannequin), passion, and complexity.
Yeah, this is entertainment, but of a sort that asks you to think a little, too, while your munching that popcorn.

Big fan of the original Candyman series.
Thanks! for sharing. I am a fan of the 1990's series of Candyman.
Peele and his political jabs . . . I diverted a few intended goers.
social destruction brought about by the conditions w/in one of the most notorious of the high-rise complexes, built specifically for the poor, isolating them from neighborhoods they'd long inhabited. "Urban development" indeed follows a pattern, I saw it, personally, in Portland. The poor are displaced, often from single-family homes into large high density tracts--- it happened (still is...) all over urban America, from coast-to-coast.You seem a little touchy about the race thing--- kind of like the most famous of Mississippians: ""If it came to fighting, I'd fight for Mississippi against the United States even if it meant going out in the streets and shooting Negroes. After all, I'm not going out to shoot Mississippians." "William Faulkner

Faulkner is more famous than Jefferson Davis, Muddy Waters and Elvis?!?
Living conditions are created and maintained by the people who live there. I once inspected Section 8 housing and you would be amazed at what renters can do to a brand new place. Don't point a politically correct/inept finger at me. I don't like insinuations in films that are one-sided. That is all Peele does. Look at his films.
I don't see him as a "great talent" but more of a PC hack.
race relation truths? How'd you like to live in a town or city with Faulkner as mayor--- if you can imagine yourself as a fellow black human being?
Do you know about red-lining? The inability of black families to get home loans, the single most important determinant of financial stability?
Anyhow, the film follows on the heels of Peele's two other great successes--- though he only wrote this one, he didn't direct.
Nothing politically correct about pointing out truth, by the way. The alternative is continuing to believe racism is gone or that it was a myth or...
