Acting was excellent, but I was not that impressed by the movie itself. Anyone else see it?
Follow Ups:
The Frog and the Princess.
I'm surprised he gained so much traction in Hollywood then I look at Driver.

works.
Plemmons is easily as talented an actor as Dunst.

Great acting and cinematography, but too weak a plot to carry it all through. A relentless buildup of the first two thirds was followed by a total letdown of the last third. The whole plot then fell apart, in our view.
I found it extraordinary. No spoilers, but it is quite rare that characters surprise me in the way they did here. Depths were revealed slowly in the two main characters, hinting at further depths that are left implicit. There is an economy, important information that passes in a sentence or a glance. I found this richly rewarding and thought provoking. I see lots of movies and would not say that about too many,
as I have only seen about 1/2 of the film so far and will finish it later today... My hunch is though, I will probably agree with you based on where I feel it is going... The only thing I would say so far, is that the cinematography is beautiful and the plot is SLOW to unfold....
I will stick with my previous comments. Other than the cinematography, I feel like I wasted 2 hours of my time. Kind of reminds me of that old Fred Astaire tune... I'm Building Up To An Awful Letdown...
all actors bring "baggage:" I just don't buy Cumber as a cowpoke. And then I have a problem with so much male nudity with no reciprocity, especially with Dunst in the cast. That said, she looked like she's aged a LOT since Melancholia; plus, it seemed like she needed a cup of coffee throughout the film: sleepwalking isn't interesting.
The plot was Brokeback Mountain without the great acting, writing, and drama. Compare this to another female-directed film, "Meek's Cutoff." Nah, don't...
I lived in northern Alberta (400 miles north of Edmonton), and it looked like the terrain in this movie.
plays melancholic like no one else. Also glad there was no "The Big Reveal" concerning the ending. Slow but right up my alley and beautiful cinematography. Agree with Musetap, a very subtle plot that slowly unfolds

Campion layers things delicately and interestingly and working
through the layers is more like enjoying fine baklava than an...
onion.
This has been her style and it was extremely apparent here.
Also very much enjoyed her portrayal and take on the transitioning
period of the classic Wild West to the slightly more refined Wild West,
(which seems to still be going on)!
The acting was great, the subtle plot(ing) exquisite.
Hope we don't have to wait another decade or so for something else by her.
