The three hour long work featuring Emmanuelle Beart and Charles Berling among many others, is not a bad film overall. While lacking in some spots, it still presents an interesting life story... the story that doesn't follow a straight path, and even though some actions don't seem to have strong underlining logic, they paint a human portrait of those involved.
A bit too sentimental at times, and jumpy at others, it warrants your attention and will most likely make you think aplenty.
Follow Ups:
I saw this film many moons ago. I recall it being pleasant, but not one that stuck with me for long.
That is correct, that is why I gave it a very cautious "not a bad film" verdict. If watched all by itself, in a vacuum, it doesn't irritate one bit. But when you put something like Il Posto right next to it - like I did - you immediately realize the great difference in their quality.
