Very interesting 6 part documentary on Netflix about the Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh and the settlement that was created in Oregon in the 1980's.
Follow Ups:
...when I lived in the Portland, Oregon area. There was lots of negative coverage on that cult.-Steve

...he came through Boulder in 1970 when I was in school there.
My sister, 2 years younger, also in school there gushed about seeing him.
Have heard some of the stories about him in Oregon over the years.
Sounds interesting, especially since they extensively interview his #2.
Finished it yesterday. Reminded me a little of The Jinx doc on Robert Durst, in that the story twisted in most unpredictable ways. Really enjoyed learning about this strange slice of history.
I was talking to some guys who were doing hiring interviews for Circuit City , when the were opening up on the west coast.
They said they really wanted people, but this group was a non starter. When asked . so what have you been doing the last five years? Getting all big eyed and saying, "working for the master" didn't give a lot of reasons to get hired. Said they got a lot of the ex cult people looking for entry level work because the cult got shut down a couple of weeks previously.
I recommended this series to a friend and she asked me where they got so much money. The 17 or 19 Rolls Royces are nothing compared to the obvious massive amount to build a city from scratch. I could only guess. But it seems like a lot of their "business model" was similar to Scientology, thousands of people working hard and long hours for modest room and board.
