for the MM 9000

For the price, this is an excellent value in an amplifer. Warm Marantz sound, great build quality. It is not a Krell or similar ultra high end amplifier, but Marantz has never been about ultra high end. This is simply a well build, high performance home theater amplifer that compared favorably with other products in its price range (Rotel, Adcom, NAD, etc.).

For Marantz enthusiasts, it has the "Marantz sound", which many refer to as "tube-like": warm and clear. It also has excellent reach into the highest and lowest audible frequencies, which some tube equipment does not. I immediately notices an impact with the excellent base extention provided by this amp: I did not realize that my Klipsch RF3's were cabable of producing that kind of bass response. The Klipsch is a warm, forward sounding speaker, and I was concerned that the Marantz would be overkill for this speaker. On the contrary, this amp controls these speakers better than other amplifiers I have used.

You can find this amp used for around $600 - 700. For that price, it is an absolute steal!

Product Weakness: Does not have the razor sharpness that you might find in amps for 3 - 4 times the price I paid for the MM 9000.
Product Strengths: Warm, natural sound, 5 channels for home theater, high price/performance ratio
