Try both & see what sounds better, I doubt the NHT impedance drops too low to damage the amp. I use NHT 2.5s (not i's) with a Yammie 990. Be wary of the combination it can sound bright & harsh especially with lower end equipment. I've not listened to the new crop of yamaha stuff, so let your ears be the guide.
