In Reply to: Episode II - new reference dvd? posted by TA on November 13, 2002 at 10:18:52:
Watched it yesterday, virtually flawless image, though slightly soft. I thought Epsisode I was the most stunted performance I'd ever seen, Episode II sets a new low standard. Thank goodness for the animated characters! I think George Lucas secretly hates humans, and wants to make them look bad. And what's his continual fascination with pointy spaceships going into long dark tunnels (I know what Freud would say)? Also, a new plot would be nice after so many episodes. We are suckers for buying this stuff, but IMO it is among the reference DVD's.For something different in a reference DVD, try the Canadian version of The Brotherhood of the Wolf for the (French) dts sound, and the American version for the picture.
Follow Ups:
Hitchcock (and lotsa others) did it with trains. The one I like the most is where the train enters the tunnel and is then shown, hurtling at breakneck speed, emerging out of the other end of the tunnel . . .
So will Episode III be 100% CGI? Have no real human characters, and make all the CG characters act like the ones in Final Fantasy? (emotionless)He might still be in the midst of writing it, either trying to connect all the crazy convoluted plot to mesh with the original Star Wars, or busy scanning old sci-fi films to steal ideas.
