I have a Pioneer Pro-98 Rear Projection TV. Last night while I was watching TV, the TV automatically shut down with a big thump noise. I could not turn it on with the remote, even though the main power button on the TV was still lit. I had to turn the main power off and back on. This is the second time this month.
The TV is plugged directly into the wall. Could it be a power surge? But the lights didn't flicker.
How old is it?
I've never really heard of something like that. I have a pre-amp that won't work with the remote unless it's turned on at the box. Sometimes the kids turn it off at the box, then remote doesn't work etc. Your problem sounds similar so it might be a switching problem or it's getting low power and turning itself off.
What happens if you unplug and replug it in from the wall? Does it act the same? Could be a low power problem. What else is on the circuit? Anything running when it happened? Air conditioner or microwave?
The unit is only about 4 years old. I've contacted Pioneer, but got no help because they say it's out of warrantee. The TV has a main power switch in which you have to turn on before it will function. The Remote and the TV has a secondary power switch. So when you turn off the TV from the remote, there are actually some residual power going through the TV.
I am not sure what else is on the same circuit. I will have to check on that. But this has only been happening this month and nothing new had been added to the circuit. I suspect that it might be a low power problem. I will need to measure it and see what's going on next time it goes off. Thanks for your help!
lots of times I would receive messages through my tv set. You should turn it off and just listen to music with the lights off. This time of year, I suggest Johann Strauss. You'll feel much better.
Did I said I wasn't feeling good? The problem was just annoying. I do love music, but sometimes I have to turn on the TV and watch the news so I know what's going on in the world. But please stick with the question. I am looking for an answer, not mockery. And yes, I know. God is always watching me. :o)
ahead... sorry I didn't mean to mock. Mine was a stupid response. At least you know sombody feels your pain. At least you can watch TV when you want to. My 2.5 year-old has total control over the clicker. We watch Blue's Clues, Little Bear, and something called Franklin. I have no answers, but I heard your prayer.
