I have a B&K AVR 307 and 6 good speakers now. The sound is wonderful. I have 2 more small good speakers and room for them. What is everyone's opinion about using 2 more speakers? My concern is that I realize most DVD's and Blu Ray discs only support 5.1 and that the other audio to the other 2 speakers is synthesized. I do not want to start a separate 7.1 library

If you have the room then it's a no-brainer. DO it. I don't have the space to take advantage of it, so those two outputs on my B&K Ref 50 remain unused.
If my room were bigger, I would jump on it. AS it is, I'm running two subs (on in each powered tower) and a bi-polar setup in the rears... (DefTech all around) it's more than enough for the 17x25 room I use for the HT.
...to have spent extra money and have 2 extra speakers on my walls for really no appreciable difference. Part of it; I want to watch what I enjoy, not what has 7.1 content (which is still minimal to this day). And even with 7.1 content, unless your room is massive (mine is 17 x 24, reasonable), I think it's pretty much pointless.
If I had more time I'd probably rip down the 2 extra speakers and clean up the paint where they were.
Is the audio for the additional speakers synthesized or just matrixed?
that is why I am asking you guys
