This action-packed murder-fest rang up almost as many bodies as the current Wick genocide. Sasha Luss played the pretty KGB assassin who was earning her way to retirement. Mirren promised her five years and Murphy (CIA) promise her one year for a BIG FAVOR.

This was much like Wick but in a more cold-blooded way. Anna was the aggressor and was rarely defending herself. Near the end, there was a monumental homage to 'Old Boy' that the astute viewer will recognize.

Anna is not for awards, great acting, nor original plot lines. It's about pretty skin punching, stabbing, and shooting her way to freedom. The Trifecta was missed from the lack of car chases. Too bad.

I'll probably watch when it can be streamed.

but the formula is unmistakable with the addition of a Wickian body count. For most peeps, this would be a streamer when mama's out of the house.

I thought of the two very differently. , posted on June 28, 2019 at 02:13:33

I thought the Ann lead was very well played, and saw no problem with the rest of the skillful performances.

I saw this as an old style spy story, with modern style violence, while the other was a very fantastic comic book style revenge tale.

Both did share the influence of jackie chann in the modern style of the fight scenes, but john wickes was done to such an extreme in used violence as humor, the scenes becoming a parody of movie violence by the time they climaxed. Anna had no such craft, just a big body count.
