Hi, 1917 won for best picture at the Golden Globes awards. It isn't even out at the theaters until Jan. 10. Today is Jan.6. What's up with that?...Mark Korda

1917 had very limited release in US on 25 Dec 2019 with much wider release on 10 Jan 2020 (actually many theatres will present first showing on 09 Jan 2020 PM). Pretty sure it was released this way to get in on 2020 award season.

I suspect they did not want a war movie out during the hilly season. Wouldn't want to make anybody sad...sniff.

Even 'uncut Gems' of late? Christmas Season is just more people at the picture show. Hollywood lost its conscience in the 70s.

I respectfully disagree... yes Hollywood lost it's collective conscience..., posted on January 8, 2020 at 13:02:29

but it wasn't until the 2000's.... as far back as ten years ago you could go to see a recently released movie, wait in line and sit in a packed theater! I went to see "The Rise Of Skywalker" on 1/2 at 8:00 in the evening and there were exactly 25 people (I counted) in an empty theater... I don't know who the current "studio executives" are at the various organizations... but they should ALL be fired and new ones hired... IMMEDIATELY if not sooner!

Perhaps because people saw the last two Star Wars movies and said - enough.

There is a part of Hollywood that is just so off the rails trash as Mr. Plinkett notes when he basically attacks Hollywood. Lucas makes a good point about what has happened in movies over the last 3 decades or so.

Skip to 52 minutes where the actual review starts and where Lucas talks about how Hollywood works at 1hour.

of this nature is given around 40% of the screens. After the first three days you can nearly be alone.

I try to catch mine 11:00a.m. or so, mid week. Usually works out to where there are, at most, 2 or 3 other lost souls in there. Strangely enuf, Parasite, which has been out for awhile, had about 20 folks in the rundown (old Angelika) theater here on a Tuesday, 10:45a.m. showing. Maybe it was the two Globes it snagged Sunday evening...

Do you still have any theaters that show recently released films at rock bottom prices? We don't.

I've been with the franchise since it's beginning and some of the films have been great...., posted on January 11, 2020 at 14:56:56

like A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, Revenge Of The Sith and The Force Awakens... The rest IMO have been mediocre to poor including the final installment... As usual though, Hollywood NEVER learns from their mistakes.... They've hired Rian Johnson (The Last Jedi which SUCKED) to direct the "new" 1st installment of the trilogy that they are currently putting together....

Nope, as far as I know the dollar theaters are a thing of the past, posted on January 11, 2020 at 21:00:22

They never showed very recent movies anyways and, with the advent of On Demand Redbox, etc., they were competed out of the market. Best I can find is Cinemark first showing for $7-ish which sux. Add medium coke and popcorn and you're out a twenty nearly.
