Just saw it (Redbox DVD). Couldn't make it through to the end.

It was well done for what it is and, maybe, well, it got how many rewards?

But, what a disgusting movie. Now, someone tell me what it all meant because I must be missing something such as it's significance.

I can guess, though: Is it a metaphorical representation of Trump in the White House? That still makes it disgusting :-)

Much has been made of the violence in the picture, but war and zombie films have much more. If you want info on possible film meaning, the web is full of reviews. Most mention class warfare...

Amateurish would be my one word description. I did get one good laugh out of the daughter stilling on the toilet trying to keep most of the sewage out of the flooded house. That's about it.

I turned it off before the violence, fortunately.

The whole family mulching in the big new house dreaming up new ways to suck money out of that family just reminded me of Trump and all his relatives and cronies as they dream up new ways to loot the government and its people.

in SK film. No matter the subject something comes up and lashes out. If pure violence is desired then SK can provide you with nearly non-stop, top quality violence. They have a knack for such things.

I had it 5th on my list of the movies nominated.

If you want reviews there is this site called rottentomatoes which gathers up professional reviews from around the country (and other countries) as well as thousands of amateur reviews and ranks the film.

This film got a 99% fresh rating which means reviewers had to give it a thumbs up of at least 3/5 stars. Audience (amateur reviewers) reviews were also very positive at 90%, These are extremely high reviews.

My issues with the film is that while I understand that it is a class warfare kind of film (rich and poor) I didn't hate the rich in this film enough and I didn't like the poor.

You need to sort of root for someone, But if the poor family was likeable then it would be called a SJW film which at least can't at all be said for this.

I may like it more in future viewings.

PS the violence in this film is comical absurdist. I'm the liberal on this forum - I am the one who is supposed to be the "Snowflake." Ahem.

showed a way to do it, exploiting the vulnerability of the rich that take themselves so seriously (the art lesson for the kid). The Trumps, if you wish, were the original inhabitants of the home.

Definitely agree with that! Perhaps it has something to do with having , posted on June 15, 2020 at 12:24:39

slathering Commies on your doorstep, 24/7/365? That said, the films of director Hong Sangsoo are the exception. "Hotel by the River" is a good starting point to his many, many films (nary a drop of blood in any of 'em).

"Predictable?" You guessed a guy in the basement? His unfortunate confrontation? His comeback? The takeover of the house? The violent party scene? The ending?
If this film is anything, it's shockingly original with many unforeseen turns and twists.

Lots of folks hate the political, social, and economic implications: that I can understand.

Confucius say impossible to save sinking ship that has taken on that much water.
I had already checked out. I was only sticking with it to see who produced it so I could try and get my two hours back.

I think I would prefer the ramen place on Pearl. One of the films I really liked from last year was Judy. I am old enough to have seen Garland on talk shows before she died. She was a mess.

years we went there (my wife lived 7 years in Japan). It was good to see his sons work with him. He gets there (perhaps the sons do now) in the wee hours of the mornin' to start the noodles. When I visited Japan a few years ago, I never had better ramen. Different, sure, but not better quality. On a cold day, nothing is as warming. "Tampopo:" that film never gets old...

Cause you'd never meet for coffee.

More seriously? 1. Threat of Cascadia. I was invested in real estate and we would have been stomped by the forecast 9+ quake. 2. Forest fires. The smoke window has so greatly expanded that air quality really bothered us. 3. It wasn't fun to go downtown anymore or ride bikes on the bike path (Willamette or W trail towards Fern Ridge Lake) because of the homeless situation.
4. After 20 years, we were in for a change. Never thought it would be this difficult to see our friends, though! The middle of the country (Kansas) also makes it so much easier to get to Europe (again, what a nasty surprise C-19 proved to be).

My wife was equally interested in exploring another part of the US; she's a bred and born Eugenean.

We do miss walking to Beppe's, Prince P's, and Hendrick's Park, though. We lived a few blocks from them--- and the Knight Arena.

Didn't your trade smoke and earthquake threat for tornadoes and high humidity? I also hate the smoke during fire season, and the inversions during winter. The homeless problem is terrible and only getting worse. Most locations have their tradeoffs.
Best wishes to you, your wife and daughter.

she finished up her first year at Reed, but this year is up-in-the-year. She hated the last semester on line. Tornadoes: KC is on the edge of "tornado alley" and that edge is moving further and further east and south. The humidity and bugs are certainly issues, but we spent 6 years on Sanibel Island so we're accustomed to it (and I'd spent before that 15 years in Savannah, a couple in Miami Beach, and a bunch in Rio).

I do love Eugene and miss my friends and that wonderful place a lot. The Willamette and the Buttes are truly magnificent: nothing like that here, but the endless prairie grasslands are pretty amazing. I am a little sorry to leave before City Hall is settled. I was one of the leaders in the fight against knocking down the old one before the economics were explained...

Congrats on your daughter getting in to Reed. At this point I don't see schools opening this fall. It has more to do with outbreaks outside of classrooms and off campus.
I was part of the upper Willamette Street remodel here. They chose a traffic pattern I opposed and it has proven to present problems. The only update I can give you on the courthouse is the city won its case against the descendants of the Skinners. So, the butterfly lot west of the court house can be repurposed.
