Watched it again last week. I've lost track of how many times I've seen it. Garfield and Turner are wonderful. I've always thought Cecil Kellaway was terrible miscast as Nick. Anyone disagree?

She could have really stretched out her career as a 'uuge star - all that sex appeal she had. But hey, I'm not judging - she's got the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness just like we all do! ;-)

'I'm not judging'

*ahem* ... you just basically said that she's fat, old, and a washed up actress because of it ... no jury duty for you!

we were all kids once

Hey - I got fat (or at least fatter) over the years too! Turner was in a line of work where appearance counts, and if she let her weight go, that's obviously what she preferred to do - and I'm not judging that choice. Get it? ;-)

Is this a mix up of LANA Turner and Kathleen turner? At least nobody mixed in TINA turner!
Of Course, Ted Turner is out of the running, being the wrong gender.

don't take offense of course I get it

only just trying to see if you do ... not to be too harsh, but ..

let's discuss the role of changing hormone levels in ageing, weight gain and body mass distribution along with an individuals ability to make choices about it, what choices are available, and their impact ... of course we'll also have to take into account personal medical histories, which I'll admit to not knowing in re: Ms. K. Turner

then we'll move along to which actress actually starred opposite Nicholson in the 1981 remake of 'The Postman' whose appearance also changed over the intervening 39 years

just like the rest of us, no matter the choice ... you go first

best regards

story, "Il Grido:" the cinematography and the ravishingly beautiful Alida Valli are enough--- but there's more. Steve Cochran, American B-grade actor, is the perfect lead in this early Antonioni film. Valli, by the way, was the daughter of a baron...

yes ... and Brian Dennehy is no longer with us

btw, if you can stand tear jerkers, his last film 'Driveways' will do it

there wasn't a dry eye in the room when I played it

confusion over the ID of the actress didn't bother me a bit, no egg there

objectification of the actress via 'fat shaming' irrespective of age
and assigning a 'she let herself go' attitude to her when it's not a
known in the presence of myriad other factors that can affect any person's appearance did ... I'm not clutching pearls about it, but that just seems rather shallow & sexist from a person who's intellect I respect

if she availed herself of the cosmetic surgeries, botox treatments, and other artificial enhancements now available would those choices then be applauded or ridiculed as well? because we all know that happens too

I'll shut up now, thank you.

I'll give "Driveways" a shot. nt, posted on September 25, 2020 at 12:39:45

OH! I get it.
Don't forget that Hollywood is a very shallow place. You're only as good as your last publicity shot.

And just as a note? Shelly Winters went up / down in weight as her role required. Some other stars have either lost weight, grew hair, bulked UP or other things as a function of the part to be played.....

More recently? Kristie Alley took a LOT of flak after yo yoing in weight. And just look at the Celebs who appear in weight loss commercials.

Most, or at least MANY people are in process of 'transforming' into someone else.

. . . I too will become woke enough to begin to view fat actresses as sex objects. Thank you so much for the object lesson in right thinking! ;-)

as the song says: 'I may make you feel but I can't make you think'

if you won't say it in front of the subject, your mom, your wife, your daughter, your granddaughter, or the potential pick up at the bar ...

see where that's going just from a practical point of view?

Rip Van Winkle was 'woke' too ... what did he learn?

besides staying away from Nine Pin bowlers

never mind, carry on ...
