from Argentina, is a breath of fresh air, like Punk or New Wave was. Did you like, "Zama," by Lucrecia Martel? Lisandro Alonso, responsible for the excellent, "Liverpool," and "Jauja (starring Viggo Mortensen!) is yet another brilliant new director from that S American country. Laura Citarella: "Dog Lady," a fascinating film about a woman on the edge of civilization that prefers to live with a pack of 6 dogs. And finally, Mariano Llinas, a rare and brilliant personality responsible for the 4-hour, "Extraordinary Stories:" interwoven stories about three characters, X, Y, and Z. The film will shock you with its innovative technique; Antonioni, Tarkovsky, Tarr--- these are very different but equally ground-breaking talents. No, you won't make it straight through--- you don't have to! Watch it in segments. After all, streaming series can be 40 or 50 hours long and no one complains about the length! For those who enjoy film for more than entertainment, Argentine film is a MUST, right now. |
