If you see this and think its a little like the "True Detective" series on television, you won't be the first to think so. Lots of quick and small droppings salted throughout that -- taken singularly with little context -- will tell you nothing. And that's probably where you will be when it ends.

With a cast of heavyweights, this movie is about the acting, not so much the story. Denzel, Leto, and Ramy show you what this business does to people who get down in the dirt, doing their jobs. It excels in that.

But I think it suffers in story, weaving too many interacting loose threads and complications.

Written and directed by John Hancock (no, really) in 1993, it was first given to Speilberg to direct. He thought it was too dark (too True Detective-ish), so it was passed on to Eastwood, Warren Beatty, and DeVito to direct. No takers, therefore the writer directed. It is a recent film releasing this past January.

The Cliff Notes say that for 2021, new Warner Bros. theater films will simultaneously show for one month on HBO Max streaming.

The pace and tension are good, but is it wheel-spinning? You be the judge. A lot of bad guys don't get caught.
