witty and more (I hate to say it) intelligent humor. Martin Scorsese long has been fascinated by Fran Lebowitz, the author, comedian, and social commentator, having previously made another documentary about her. In this miniseries (7 parts), Fran holds forth on different topics with her Basset Hound eyes and machine-gun delivery. It's fun to consider the influences, from Groucho to Henny (Youngman, of course) to Lenny to Gilda to Woody.

Not an "F-bomb" or vulgarity in sight, just to show one can be hilarious without resorting to making an audience laugh through embarrassment or unease.

and if Thelma Schoonmaker (for instance) edited out all the footage of
him laughing at her fine, humorous lines it would have been a 5 part series.

A great big, loving kiss to each other but mostly to The Big Apple.

Fran Lebowitz in soft booties yet.

She seems the alternative lifestyle type. Being lesbian has toughened up her worldly views I'm sure. I guess curmudgenly intelectual might work. She can say some funny things about NYC in a stand up comedy sort of way.

us city dwellers.

The amount of dolts that end up here that aren't even sharp enough to PRETEND it's
a city is almost as perplexing as the amount of them that end up living here, even
often briefly.

As far as classifying her, Ellington's Beyond Category suffices.

Too constraining...astronomical rent prices, nowhere to park a car (driving around that madhouse would be intimidating anyway).I'm not sure even visiting would be enjoyable. I spent a three day weekend there in 1967 and it was a bit stressful. In 1967, the rents were high but just barely affordable.
