Spencer Tracy beating the living crap out of Ernest Borgnine in
Bad Day at Black Rock.
With one arm and one knee.
WOW!
The older Tracy facing off with some of Hollywood's Best Bad Guys.
Tracy is so good in this!
Love it!

My fav Tracy movie is It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World, esp. when they find the big W. I also like Guess Who's Coming to Dinner.

+1 for both of you! nt, posted on January 9, 2022 at 12:23:24

What about "Inherit the Wind"?

That's the one that checks all the boxes for me when it comes to Tracy performances, but then I can't think of a bad one of his either.

times walking around. A H U G E guy. Tough as hell looking, even at his advanced age.

In real life, he would have taken poor Spencer apart.

Easily.

Watching mainly to pay my respects to Poitier but all actors delivered in this fine film and Tracy perfect in his part.

not to knock Tracy, just a misguided movie that skewered Steinbeck's intent.

Frank Morgan was great (as always) though!

WIKI:

GWCTD?:

"Poitier frequently found himself starstruck, and as a result, a bit tongue-tied in the presence of Hepburn and Tracy, whom he considered to be "giants" as far as acting is concerned. However, Poitier reportedly found a way to overcome his nerves. "When I went to play a scene with Tracy and Hepburn, I couldn't remember a word. Finally, Stanley Kramer said to me, 'What are we going to do?' I said, 'Stanley, send those two people home. I will play the scene against two empty chairs. I don't want them here because I can't handle that kind of company.' He sent them home. I played the scene in close-up against two empty chairs as the dialogue coach read Mr. Tracy's and Miss Hepburn's lines from off camera."

I'm don't doubt younger actors had the same issue acting with Poitier in later years.

When my wife was 14, she was leaving The St. Francis Hotel with her parents after lunch
and saw Poitier starting to get in a taxi and ran over to... gush?... and HE thought she wanted
the cab and let her take it, gentleman that he was.

She had the cab go around the block and bring her back to her parents outside the St. Francis
wondering WTH was going on.

Mr. Poitier had taken the next cab.

in class as an exercise in emotion....It really doesn't get much better as done by Tracy. He was like a chameleon IMO in most of his roles. So many to name including the ones already mentioned in the thread... I like him in Dr.Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Judgment At Nuremberg, Captains Courageous and Boys Town....

Ooh, I forgot about Tortilla Flat.

That one is a bit of a turkey.

Any scene with the 25 year old Anne Francis.
