A top-5 noir from Robert Aldrich, he of the strange, dark sense.
Ralph Meeker plays your not-too-typical gumshoe with a taste for Jaguars, 'vettes, mid-century modern style, classical music, and nice suits.
From the jaw-dropping beginning, this one never lets up. Violent, brutal, and cynical--- just what one would expect from the height of the nuclear war possibility of the time.
Casting is excellent, with many a face you'll recognize as top character actors of the day--- and a star that you'll work to identify from her later work.
