Asghar Farhadi ("A Separation;" "The Salesman," "The Past") comes this harrowing tale of a man, on a 3-day leave from prison who tries to do the right thing in returning a purse with a substantial amount of gold in it to its rightful owner. No one escapes Farhadi's lash as he exposes the hypocrisy in a do-gooder agency, the criminal justice system's administrators, the civil service system, and others entrusted with "helping" or "caring for" the less fortunate.

Depressing? No, because of the Oscar-worthy performance of the lead character, a man who is taken to the heights of public adoration and fame only to see those who so elevated him have second thoughts. The wisdom he thus gains may be the most valuable result, though it almost shreds his family.

This is as great, and I use the term purposefully, as his other films listed above.

If you haven't seen them, you have one of modern films' best filmmakers to discover, as well as some of the greatest contemporary actors.

Waiting for you on Amazon Prime...
