The picture quality on this DVD surpasses the quality of First Contact, Generations, and Undiscovered Country. The scenes on the planet are simply gorgeous. I can't comment on the audio because I have dismantled my HT setup and relocated my audio system to another room for serious 2 channel listening. I never realized how horrible tv speakers sound.

One thing that I dislike is that the plot of the movie unfolds too quickly. It's like they tried to fit a 2 hour movie into 90 minutes. It's been said before, but I have to agree that it's like watching a TV episode of TNG with more money for special effects. If you enjoyed any of the TV episodes (which I did) it's worth adding this movie to your collection.

One scene that I really disliked was when Riker/Frakes takes control of the enterprise steering and propulsion with a joystick that looks very familiar to the one that NASA has in their spacecrafts. Very cheesy.

I think First Contact was a better movie.

P.S. I'm still deciding on purchasing Black Hole. It was a favorite of mine as a kid but........

Thanks. I am having friends over Sunday so I will anticipate the picture, and the sound as mine is not dismatled:-) Yes, I wonder where they get some of those cheesy effects but if they have an electrical failure, a manual control, but what airfoils does it have or what are they controlling?
I hope that the BH I have has all its channels right as the first release a month ago had missing channel. It is 5.1 on the box, so it should be good, and not too expensive at 800.com

What I remember of the Black Hole is effects that were not up Disney standards. Visible wires on the robots and characters when floating in space. I think I saw it in 70mm, but it was definitely seen in a big movie "palace" built in the '40s.
