on the subject of 'movie grade popcorn'....

As a general rule I skip the over-priced soft drinks and popcorns. Just the movie please.
At my last movie (Rogue One) I could not help but appreciate the aroma, if that's the word, of the heavily buttered popcorn wafting over me. The odor of this was not enough to distract me from the movie, however I could not help but appreciate certain aspects of this warm aroma. It seems as if the butter/sauce has certain ingredients within it that may have a shelf life prior to spoilage....and perhaps that particular barrel of popcorn was drenched in a butter sauce that had expired. There was this certain sense of.....rot.

I'm glad I didn't have any.

...It is my understanding that the "buttery" flavor of most movie grade popcorn is entirely contrived and contains nothing resembling butter. Thus, the concept of "shelf life" is really non-applicable in the context of a human timeframe: kinda like Mobil 1 in its various forms. The exception may be at the Art House establishments (esp on the coasts) where they use organic buttery flavoring.

And had it circulating through the a/c? There would be a constant ebb and flow of people going to the concessions. The scent of bacon is so powerful it is not allowed any where near a cemetary.

...I cannot see a movie at the theater without popcorn no matter if I've just eaten dinner.

I usually order a small size with no butter and a small Diet Coke at the senior special" price of $6.25.

They use Orville Redenbacher and it is way better than any home pop I've ever had.

...I've ever eaten (without additional 'butter' applied), and a movie and popcorn are inseparable for me.

Harkins pops theirs in some kind of oil, but their 'butter' is actually butter, or at least that's what the concession-stand kid told me.

Along with the best 'corn, they issue vouchers when you appear in one of their $25-per-year T-shirts, and that voucher gets you a medium 'corn free or a REFILLABLE large bag for an additional dollar. Hence one gets TWO bags of 'corn for a dollar. They sell refillable-for-$1.50 sodacups, too, so LOTS of popcorn and plenty of drink--I prefer Coke Zero--costs only as little as $1.50. :-)

One also receives a 'corn voucher when one adds $25 to your Harkins giftcard, so I often have a stack thick enough to give my daughter a dozen or so for my granddaughters' school breaks.

It's a wonderful life. :-)

inseparable. The Cinemark movie popcorn is nothing to write home about but gets the job done. "Butter" at the half fill point and "butter" on top. Best I can recall was drive in movie popcorn from back in the 60s. God I loved that stuff/

When going to an adult movie, the guy behind the popcorn counter will ask
"you want butter or are you going to make your own?" Laughing...

A quick google search using key words like "Movie Theater Popcorn" and hits pop up saying things like:
2-day old hot dogs
2-day old popcorn & butter sauce.

So if the people behind me were chewing on 2-day old popcorn, well, I might have been smelling 2nd hand bad-breathy odors of 2-day old mobile-1 butter sauce. Presumably, even artificial (synthetic?) butter sauce will smell and taste better when freshly made and, presumably, all the equipment used to make it has been cleaned prior.

If not rot that I was smelling, then it was nuclear proof but -days old- and unclean popcorn with the bomb-shelter butter sauce.

I'm guessing potential side effects could be one of three things; 1) a powerful laxitive or 2)inducer of fecal impaction.... or 3) cause of significant time delay nausea.

... to see a movie where food was not allowed.

I am sick of listening to people rustling through their candy bags, swirling the popcorn in their buckets, chewing with their mouths open, sucking on their straws trying to get another drop of soda out of a long since empty gallon sized pail, fumbling with wrappers ....

Nachos, hot dogs, pizza slices, hot pretzels ...its a friggin' movie, not dinner.

Sometimes its like being in a room full of barnyard animals.

...of highly stable synthetic buttery flavoring (also acts as popcorn preservative) interacting with halitosis inflicted customers. Wise to keep in mind that since AMC is now Chinese owned, AMC movie grade popcorn might also have covert purposes.

It's the Chinese military trying to subvert, through food chemistry, the movie going American public. I knew it. I just knew it.

...for a movie house that sold wine and beer.

A small number have started to.

Movie theaters don't make a profit on the films, it's on the concessions.

...is a non-profit. Their mission is to provide "meaningful employment to people with disabilities".

They have four theaters ...small, smaller and smaller yet. All are gorgeous. The architecture is superb.

Wine and beer are allowed in the theaters if purchased at the bar.

I'll only go see a flick at the mega-plex with the picnickers if it isn't shown at the Prospector.

You would hate this place. They renovated after Katrina and the first time I went there I was not aware of the changes they made. I payed for two and it came to $32.00, after I recovered form the shock we went in side and was presented with a menu, you can read it at the link below, I just wanted a coke and popcorn but I had to order a blood orange soda and truffle popcorn instead, my wife had wine and an app. It cost over $60.00 including tip! Yes tip for the waiter service. Unfortunately this is the closest cinema to my house and I used to go frequently and they showed more indie and foreign films, now they show the same dreck that all other theaters show so now it has to be special for me to go there. If only the had a section at a reduced price with out all the frills.

...excellent.

I've seen bits on TV about theaters that hire the disabled - we need more like that.

This was the ingredient that made movie popcorn so tasty back in the day-then the idiots responsible for federal dietary recommendations decided it was verboten.

Now that the latest science has vindicated coconut oil as the healthy fat is has always been, I've been wondering if it will make a comeback in theaters.
