...anyone watching this series on Hulu?

It's a dystopian story about the near future where women become infertile and have Handmaidens to get pregnant for them in their new world order - suspenseful, creepy and very well done.

So far there are 7 episode in Season 1.

I picked up the book a couple of months ago and the series follows it pretty well until Episode 6 where it veers off in a different direction than the book, no doubt to prolong the story for future seasons.

The manly men among us will probably pooh-pooh it but it's pretty powerful stuff.

Elizabeth Moss of Mad Men stars and she's certain to win the best actress Emmy for it.

Highly recommended.

Yep. Enjoying it. Perfect show to watch with the wife and score points lamenting the difficult life of the handmaids!

the current US political climate. Supposedly the actions depicted in the story are inspired by a perverted interpretation of fundamentalist Christianity.

However if one objectively examines what is depicted in Gilead, one may find many more parallels to what still occurs in many areas of the non US world. Think about which religious movements subject women to genital mutilation as punishment, prevent women from having any voice in their society, view women as property, brutally repress dissenting opinion, and wants to spread it's message throughout the world.

Viewed in this light, the tale becomes more horrific and chilling when one realizes that most are oblivious.

...when the president is assassinated, Congress is machine-gunned and the Supreme Court are murdered, it is blamed on Islamic extremists (in the book) and martial law is imposed.

But it's only going to be temporary...

Could something like that happen here?

It's happening in the Philippines and our president is a fan.
