I got dragged by friends to see this being rather down on most superhero films but this reminded me of some sort of cross between the original Reeves Superman films mixed with Indiana Jones. I quite enjoyed the casting choices here as Gadot seems like a perfect fit for a Goddess savior and Pine is quite strong as the male lead - solid chemistry.

My only complaint really is the big action scene at the end - which all these movies have. I just wish these films would tone down the CGI and go for a more subdued and more realism. Still even here it was better than most of these kinds of films as it takes breaths and a beat to impart some heart.

It has some problems that most of these origin movies have - they have to take a bunch of time on backstory - thus certain characters are thin as cardboard - I'd like one or any of the villains to be more drawn out. There's no Lex Luthor of the original films (campy as he was) or the Joker from the Dark Knight. You don't get that here.

Nevertheless, it seemed fast for over 2 hours and for a comic book movie it's one of the best in the genre.

I thought it a bit weird with all the time WW hung out with Chris Pine and friends (female directors touch?), posted on June 1, 2017 at 21:57:40

Wonder Woman showed vulnerability, innocence and strength during this time which I liked (but it was different than most super hero movies).

However the finale was worth the wait, we learn something about her and then she kicks some serious butt.

and it certainly helps if you are a Gal Gadot fan as she is very good.

big thumbs up.

I agree it was very good. The story flowed very nicely. The ending was excellent.

...also surprised at how many times Zack Snyder (director of BM v SM among others) showed up in credits. Co-writer of story, exec prod etc. His influence was evident in some of the action scenes: matrix like "bullet time" and fast-slow-fast motion as seen in "300".

...I don't know if any of the manly men here noticed, but as gorgeous as she was, there were no sexy come-hither looks or cheesecake scenes.

She was strong, self-confident and didn't need a man to tell her what to do or to help her out.

Great role model for young girls today.

Fun film, well done.

I have always wanted WW to tie me up and make me tell the truth...

Loved it. One of the best with top-flight CGI, action, and humor. *, posted on June 5, 2017 at 11:19:47

Well I did research on the man who created Wonder Woman. William Marston was a psychologist along with his wife and his other female partner. He was in a poly-amorous relationship.

He was into BDSM and he invented the precursor to the polygraph test - where the lasso of truth likely came from.

"From his psychological work, Marston became convinced that women were more honest than men in certain situations and could work faster and more accurately. During his lifetime, Marston championed the latent abilities and causes of the women of his day."

Interesting fellow.

These are the only kinds of women who interest me. Basically I've been holding out for Wonder Woman. I live in Asia - I basically have to find my Lucy Liu. And take out some extra medical insurance.

I liked it, but could have done with less slow motion. (nt), posted on June 19, 2017 at 13:42:28

I didn't think it went fast. It had a lot of good and a lot of bad.

Lots of spluttering throughout between Pine and Gadot. I give the movie a B- but it is the best DC movie since Nolan's TDK which isn't saying a ton.

Bad: See spluttering above. Characters who don't seem to do anything -- perhaps their stories are on the cutting room floor. Pine's character was frustrating and seemed to make decisions only to advance the plot. Fairly boring and useless first act. No reason for the Amazons and why the mom didn't want GG to learn to fight. Fight scene towards the end that seems similar to Superman v. Zod -- just a bunch of huge events that don't make much sense.

Good: Gadot is perfectly cast. Filmed very well. Gadot's fight scenes with humans done very well. Lots of work on costumes and scenes to make it look like WWI. Really good WW theme music.

A movie you could see again but being able to ff through bad parts would help immensely. The Marvel films have more of an easy going nature to them and their characters seem like people you'd like to see again. Not so with DC which are way too overblown.

RGA - I agree with your review 100% and thank you for writing it- but I might respectfully edit out "wonderfully" from the heading.

Personally, I hope Hollywood never makes another comic book film ever again. I can't stand cape movies with cartoonish CGI (ENOUGH!) but despite this film having both of those elements - we enjoyed the feminine power, Dr Poison was captivating and the chemistry/dialogue between Gal Gadot and Chris Pine was well-done.

I forgot I saw the movie 10 minutes after viewing... but it was different then the usual expensive drivel of comic book films being spit out on a Hollywood conveyor belt - and in the context of low-expectations, it was entertaining.

Have a great day- Jim
