The claim is, with the consolidation of resources, the new entity will resent credible competition to Netflix and Amazon.

OK... but my question is not that of volume of trash - we already get plenty of it from the two big streamers... but will the offerings change and will we finally gain access to good movies?

Call me naive... I was kinda hoping that Fox would make its huge good movies library available for streaming. But it seems the studios have totally different objective - to keep producing trash like Avatar.

With two streaming giants out there: Netflix and Amazon, there is nothing to watch on them, so based on that article we should not expect any improvements.

...you might have to broaden your film horizons - and lower the bar somewhat.

The demographic they are both going for likes big superhero films.

My wife and I got so fed up with all that streaming nonsense, that we started watching the Soviet films from the fifties and sixties on Youtube. Turns out, there are literally hundreds of them there, if not more.

We are having a ball, I must say. Plenty of excellent actors, and while much of that is shameless propaganda, there are many great moments.

How's THAT for "Escape from Hollywood" super-hero sequel? :)

I think that's the best one can do. I'm about to turn onto French noir and new wave from 60's. I can't even watch the movies from my old country because they all try to imitate "Bollywood " with no budget at all and it's a disaster. I can't swallow modern Russian movies as well with few exceptions. I don't know how it works psychologically but in the ancient past we hated soviets to the bone but mostly loved the movies ....

We do love good older movies, the problem is finding them with subs on pirating sites, as no official site will usually have them. I am willing to pay money, but no one is selling...

The Russian films often fly under the radar, so there is wealth of them.

When the propaganda part hits, we just laugh, like we did last night, watching Люди и Звери, perhaps you remember that one.

When I was twelve, I had a very serious crush on that actress. :)

I do remember that one,- "People and beasts". The thing is there is a lot of that propaganda during almost 3 hrs movie and some say it's entirely a propaganda, but I cried anyway, as I almost always do watching old Russian movies ...:)

Its portrayal of decaying decadent West is so stupid, you can't help but laughing, and we did non-stop.

The big question remained unanswered - why the hero, so madly in love with the soviet society, waited 17 years to return to that paradise. Why endure all that "humiliation" of Western life, living among the "beasts"?

I suspect Netflix viewer rating system has a effect on selection as well.
