Twenty some years ago I saw Man on the Moon, the biopic of Andy Kaufman. I remember liking it, but I've never thought much more about it. I was always a pretty big fan of Andy Kaufman's weird non-joke comedy. Well, it turns out that there was a lot of footage from the making of Man on the Moon that has been sitting all this time. And this very unusual documentary takes the footage of the time, along with a current interview with Jim Carrey, to take us pretty deep into the creative, verging on insane, mind of one comedian/actor. It turns out that Jim Carrey at the time "became" Andy Kaufman. He would talk about Jim Carrey as another person. Kaufman's family actually seemed to sort of accept him as Andy. It is all so strange and tangled. Carrey entering his version of the inner life of someone he never knew. I don't know whether Carrey is deep or just uber pretentious. In the end, it seems like a mixture. But this is a very interesting documentary. |
frankly there were times watching that movie that I forgot it wasn't Andy Kaufman, Carrey's best work imo. nt, posted on November 18, 2017 at 16:26:47

Who else could come close? But He's no Andy Kauffman. These days he's not even Jim Carrey. Nt, posted on November 19, 2017 at 13:48:53
