Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe; two private investigators stumbling through 70's Los Angeles culture, with all the superficial glitz and porn.

These guys are funny. I have to lose my former low opinion of Gosling, who looked to me like Plastic Man, someone you could stare at all day and still not see him. Here he really stands out as a comical dufus with more hangups than a coat closet, but raising a kid as a single parent. Crowe plays the straight man, but works well into this comic role.

Overall, it was a fun ride with these guys. Try to see it. Shouldn't be hard because I see it listed frequently with one channel or another. The movie is worth it just to see the cultural setting its embedded in.

Both actors were good in their roles, but not much chemistry for a buddy pic. Thought the daughter was good. Enjoyed the period LA setting. Glad I didn't pay to see it, but streaming ? Sure. There are worse ways to spend 2hrs.

This might be as much 'buddy' role as Crowe can do., posted on November 24, 2017 at 08:23:10

IMO, he can 'star' with other actors, but has to have a unique role in the film.
I was surprised to see him in this one.
