The Tiger in 'Fury' is the only functioning example left. Great death-dance sequence as they struggled to out flank it according to established protocols.

There are some interesting articles on making fake military equipment for such films, including tanks - as hardly any are left. Experts usually can tell in a second what was taken for the base - an APC or a tractor - they all have their unique structures. A more real tank movie would be the Israeli film Lebanon.

the Tank Museum in England is so very proud of their Tiger I. It took them years to get the thing operating. Sure, you're a T-34 kind of guy, but the romance of the Tiger is an awesome thing.

I hate to butt in like this, but your header implies these guys are slightly off base, when , they might feel very reasonable in their never forget position.

I wouldn't know, never having discussed it with an englishman.

But I did once sail with a WW2 nazi as second engineer , and talked to him as we watched scenery from the ships rail going up the congo. That guy was still a proud nazi, he certainly didn't forget, said he was a submarine officer in the war.

Having seen what a death cult that deal is, I was driven to point to another side of the conversation. I doubt if my concern was your intent, and I don't mean to insult, that you would support nazis. I just wanted to point out , from my experience, they, the never forget crowd, could be very reasonable and solid thinking.

The 17 pounder was a fine cannon. All the cannons in the 70's mm rage were tank killers. The problem with the Firefly was it was a half assed attempt to arm it with a tank killer weapon. The turret was to small and they had to solid mount the weapon minus the recoil assembly. Everytime it fired it recoiled the entire tank. And, the Sherman was still a Sherman. It was more mobile than the Tiger and Tiger II but the Germans had figured out early on how to take them out.

I guess I should have just said the existing main gun was not effective against the big German tanks. The 17 pounder changed that, but it was like putting lipstick on a pig.
