 ...Viola Davis leads a group of women whose husbands were killed stealing money from mobsters. Now the mob expects them to pay it back.

The slow moving plot is complex and has a lot of twists and turns to keep you trying to figure it out. By the end it's all clear.

Just enough violence, sex and car chases that Wonka should like it.

The acting is first rate and Davis should get another Oscar nod.

It's a very well done film that will resonate and stay with you.

Highly recommended.

 It was okay. Good performances with a somewhat predictable story. The bad guys were really bad and Neeson was really, really bad.

The social engineering was well spread so no one would feel left out. Certainly better than '12 years'.

When I see a film, I don't look through any racial filters to notice what you call social engineering - and what I call real life.

 Based on the reviews I expected it to be better and I thought the ending wqs rushed. It was OK but...................

 There was a story there but the direction was disruptive. (Sidney Lument anyone?) A good example is the scene where Colin Farrell is explaining his family's connection to the neighborhood while riding in a car. The scene is shot from a weird angle outside the car while it's moving for the whole duration of the monologue. Seemed very student-filmmaker, if you will.

The story was okay, but though a Viola Davis fan, I didn't find her that compelling. Colin Farrell was schtickish and Elizabeth Debicki is, well, tall.

A good metaphor for the whole viewing experience was the scene where they were trying to open the safe and it wouldn't open because they were holding the written combination upside down. Totally unnecessary. That describes the film.

I dragged my wife to Widows and promised her she'd like it. I almost walked out midway. Now I'm going to have to accompany the wife to Aquaman or some other BS to pay her back.

Big, big disappointment. Depressing film in every respect. Go and make up your own mind.

 I thought the acting was excellent and it was an "adult" heist film - it dealt with loss, relationships, and it was from a female perspective. I found that refreshing.

That said - The writing was manic and inconsistent... There were questions unanswered that I found thought provoking - Was Harry the father of the baby?

And questions that were left unanswered that were lazy writing - Did Veronica hand $2,000,000 over to Jamal unscathed, with no questions asked, after his brother Jatemme was found dead? C'mon! That needed some follow through.

That said, the acting was terrific. Viola Davis, Colin Farrell, Daniel Kaluuya and Robert Duvall all gave great performances. Despite the films flaws, I enjoyed it.

By the way - the driving scene that was shot from an angle, showing the neighborhood change from the "have nots" to the "haves" - appeared to be shot in real time, with no visible cuts.

It seemed the big heist, for most the characters in Widows, was independence and self esteem.

 ...and watch it on consecutive nites.

I felt that the direction and acting were a bit (properly) restrained except for the politicos who overacted like the selfish, 'entitled' blowhards they were.. I certainly was remined of the old saying...How do the Dems vote in Chicago? Early and often.

I missed, twice, the change-of-scenery point of the continuous shot anchored to the car.

Good movie, overall. I really enjoyed the numerous ends of story threads, especially Harry getting his due.

Just thought of this--I did not enjoy having to watch as many flashbacks as McQueen & editor fed us.
