Not Elf. Yet still maybe one to consider for the holidays. Fine performances by Mortensen and Ali anchor this effort by director Farelly (yes, the comedy guy). Some music history, via the biographic retelling of the Dr.Don Shirley story; a real-life powerhouse, jazz/classical pianist. Lots of dramatic meat with looks at socio-politics of race, class and sexuality. Does not ignore the points of contention, yet still manages to remind us with humor and lightness of our fundamental connections. Good to recall when so much energy goes into divisiveness. Cheers, K
