What an exquisite woman. By any measure. For once the screen had images worth reflecting. For once the theatre speakers got a workout like they never had before. What a great documentary. Saw it at my local Regal theatre. If you love music, go see it. See it on the big screen. I got all teary eyed during the performances and Mila jumped to the front of her seat and applauded with the on screen audience. So many things I could say about this movie. What an interesting time capsule, and chronicle of the decades for one.

Mila so totally flipped out over this movie it took me an hour and a half to calm her down with coffee and pastry. At the end of a very long day too. It was funny, but I can't type all the outrageous things she said. Apparently I'm on the hook now for getting her a lot of Maria Callas records, and a record player to play them on.

Big speakers and little amps blew my mind!

I have tons of Callas LP's and have been in love with her voice for ages.

Not sure where I will be able to find that film, but will definitely put it on my short list.

Thank you for the great recommendation!

P.S. Just found it on Amazon Prime - looks like the treat for tonight! :)

It was very easy to fall in love with her voice right away. Not every operatic voice has that quality - some continue being if not irritating, then at least not too attractive after years. For instance, I continue being put off by Netrebko's one. I feel there is certain hardness in it. Callas's voice had rare deep fluidity to it.

Lot of people say it was not truly perfect, and it declined early... all that is perhaps true, but her magnetic power was undeniable.

her sense of the emotional drama in music -- in that way, she resembled Toscanini.

Well you'll see how natural and lovable when you watch the movie. A diva and lovable, little poodles and all. I don't know any lovable divas today. She taught me about opera. The movie was magnificent on the big screen.

Looks like it was a one night show. I'll post a thread about Fathom Events. Don't want it buried in a thread. You should look them up.

I love that not perfect voice and singing. The best.

...I meant her voice, not her persona. It was indeed easy to get absorbed into, forget everything else. Her personal life, tumultuous and uneven, is a different story.
