Maybe I'll have to go see ASIB after all.... She's up against some pretty stiff competition though from Glenn Close and Olivia Colman... Even the clips I've seen of Melissa McCarthy in her nominated role look amazing....

I have to laugh at the Academy sometimes. Black Panther is up for best picture - which is a joke since it has no nominations for acting, directing, cinematography, writing. So if it isn't good at any of these things what exactly makes it best picture material? It wasn't even the best Marvel movie of the year!

Meanwhile Star is Born is nominated for
Best Picture
Best Actor
Best Actress
Best Supporting Actress
Best Cinematography
Best Adapted Screenplay.

Otherwise known as ALL of the major categories - umm what - did it just direct itself?

I am not in the camp that thinks Star is Born is deserving of best picture or director - I have not seen all the others - it's a solid movie but IMO hardly a great movie.

I just think it's kind of dumb if the Academy is saying a film is the best at all these things - that is usually all brought together by the director. I would imagine it more difficult to direct when you also star in the thing.

I would not go out and see a Star is Born because it got nominated - why? If the story doesn't interest you why waste your time?

If it wins best picture - then waste your time. But I have a prediction for you - It won't.

Which pair? There's quite a few of them nominated. *, posted on January 23, 2019 at 10:42:44

I have come to realize that it really is a popularity contest rather than a reward for excellent work. This year and ASIB reminds me of 1991 when The Prince Of Tides was nominated in almost every category EXCEPT actress and director. To your point, did the movie direct itself? But another movie in 91 swept the Oscars... Silence Of The Lambs... Demme won that award and then achieved little else until his death... A "one hit wonder"..... In 1978 The Turning Point AND Julia (both films are movies which I have seen COUNTLESS times) were nominated each for 11 Oscars and Shirley Maclaine and Anne Bancroft and Jane Fonda for their roles in those films but that year Annie Hall (which I HATE along with Diane Keaton who I also HATE) won the top honors. A Star Is Born has had it's own checkered past with regard to the Oscars.... Judy Garland was touted to win the Best Actress Oscar in the 50's... So much so, that all the TV stations came to her hospital room where she had just given birth to her son to get her reaction. However, Grace Kelly won instead for The Country Girl (IMHO Grace Kelly NEVER was more than "arm candy" on ANY film she was ever in)! Garland really was great in ASIB and IMO was robbed of an Oscar that she should have had. There are countless other examples....

Those nominations are a joke right ? They somehow must be since movie is
so weak and singing unconvincing to say the least.

I Can understand both sides. I'm not sure how women inmates take to this. Don't want to scare them off. We need to have more female opinions here.
Anyways I don't mind any references to tities.

they absolutely love other tits being flunked.

One day I had NO CHOICE and had to take a piss on the edge of woods around 60 yards from the nearest house. I nearly pissed my pants when I noticed a couple galloping toward me yelling something inarticulate. Wiped my hands on the pants and politely waited for the bearded house husband to catch a breath, who with a rage in his voice informed me that he didn't shoot me on the spot because his precious daughter was in school but nonetheless he is calling a Police and I will be branded a sex offender for the rest of my useless life. I tried to do my best Eastern European accent to apologize but had to turn around and run away while he was reaching for his phone. GOD!, how I will survive in this country full of hypocritical, scared of everything, fearful idiots? I do have a good life finally here after being a white N. for several years . I survived the end of socialism and transformation period . I did serve in communist army whole two years so why I'm punished with the idiocy of self righteous correctness when I feel I finally reached a safe harbor??

I hate when people get the high ground ....
arguing back can be futile and they then use that position to throw the book at you and let loose with the insults.I like getting argumentative when I at least have a chance.

About the women's tits thing. Fine to talk about them.

or a son neither. Apparently the tribes inhabiting those lands are very prone to violate their offspring so draconian laws had to be put in place to prevent such things. I was lectured last summer by my friend what you can and cannot do with your kid. Really I asked ? You have to use your hockey glove to bath your daughter? Forget THAT! we suck the welfare services dry , max the credit cards and go back to our post socialist republic to live the American dream ...

I love that this guy actually defends it after the fact. I think maybe we should call him thumb dick. No doubt it is an accurate name for him.

Shall I post the video clip of Lady Gaga letting a woman vomit fluorescent green slime all over her during the stage show of a concert? Then you can tell me all about misogyny.

Oh c'mon. It's a freedom of artistic expression . Personally I wait for her to be pissed and pooped on, while the girls in dildos perform sex on the stage . Only that kind of progressive and liberating art I would allow my daughters (if I had them ) to attend. While of course I would shoot on the spot every guy who would dare to look at them should they chose to masturbate in public while watching such concert.
Those kind of predators should be eliminated at all cost :0)
In short , I think the movie is mediocre and the leading cast badly chosen (can't stand the guy either, in any of his wooden roles) Her tit's however are natural and I don't see anything wrong with them, opposite.

Yes I think you need to post that. Not sure what that has to do with the misogynism clearly displayed here in calling her ol saggy tits though.

As you will see on the video the green puke goes right on the fair bosoms of the delicate lady that you are so gallantly defending. When aiming to be the White Knight, like most things in life, it's better to pick you battles. So far I haven't had to call any Asylees a thumb dick, but I'll keep my options open.

Her performance is either empowering, or it just makes her a nasty puke slut.

Calling someone out on their misogyny is not done in defense of any individual woman. And her artistic choices do not give one a licence to be a misogynist. Get a clue bro.

Oh no, I got that you were white knighting for all women, and we are all duly impressed. I was just being poetic, that was my artistic choice.

That's real big of you to take a such an "artistic" stand for misogyny. Well done. You must be making all the women in your life very proud. If there actually are any

Scott is right, it was misogynist,no way around it. Does it matter in this example ? I don't think so. The country already feels like Soviet Russia. One careless word and your entire life goes in flames.
Why don't we force more women and people of color into hobby?
I would vote Scott for Quota delivery manager.
50% of girls on the forum or the AA severs will have to close the door.

No, I was not taking a stand for misogyny. I was taking a stand against cheap, two-bit moral posturing on social media that costs you nothing and signifies even less.

Would it be possible for you to signal your virtue without hurting others?

Whether it is misogyny or not is arguable. It was certainly rude, and not something I think a gentleman should say, and I think it should have been handled that way. But that's not what Scott did. He used it as a hammer to beat someone over the head, just so he could feel good about himself. I don't respect that. Treating it as bad manners would help civil society. Beating someone over the head for it helps to destroy civil society. And America is in a fragile state right now, and frankly I fear the worst.

I'm afraid I agree with you about America and Americans. In our defense the KGB did a fine job undermining and subverting the American ethos. Their plan was to attack the ruggedness of the American people, and they probably succeeded beyond their wildest expectations. True, they had a dedicated cadre of Americans who were willing to carry out their plans, and act as fifth columnists. That red network has completed it's march through the institutions, and now is even at the highest levels of the U.S. government. The thing about the radicals is they are so hard to stop, because they never take a day off. They stick at what they are doing 24/7. Like they never want to go fishing or have any other kind of fun. You know Stalin believed in marriage, but the kind of radicalism they pushed on America was the Trotsky kind. That's what we have in America today. We have even graduated to Orwell's "face-crime," that's what the Covington school boys story was all about.

I wouldn't blame you if you did move back to one of the Visegrad countries. They are more likely to preserve Western Civilization than anyone else. I'll make my stand here, in the land of my fathers, win or lose.

Moral posturing. That's a good one. Soooo you were hurt by my calling out misogyny? I saw a really pathetic misogynist post. And I saw a whole lot of folks here, save one, yuckin it up. I think it was nothing short of disgusting behavior done in the safety of anonymity of an internet forum. So I called it out. I'm guessing just about everyone involved in this discussion would have said very different things if this were done in person in the presence of actual women. And it would have been so for all the wrong reasons. Nothing like anonymity for letting people show their true colors.
