Is Black Panther really that good? I have swarm off the superhero flicks. Won't waste anymore time with them at this point.

I was disappointed, especially after all the hype, it is an average super hero movie imo..., posted on January 29, 2019 at 13:12:21

average performances and nothing to recommend it outside of being highly inclusionary. I'm surprised to see it nominated.

That is the only thing that makes sense to me. I have not heard anyone rave about the excellence achieved in cinematography.

But (as was mentioned before) somewhat typical of the current 'super-hero' stuff. The movie was well done and the cast worked well together. But the story was a little disjointed and a little lightweight for my taste. AMC theaters plans on showing the movie for free sometime in February. It's worth a see in a real movie theater at that price.

Did you find it to be film award worthy?

...and definitely more entertaining than say the bloated, overwrought and self important "Infinity Wars". A good intro to the genre for those that tend to be repelled by it. OTOH, not best pic material by any stretch. It's nomination seems a bit disingenuous or...ah...um.......

I generally like Chadwick Boseman. I'm happy he got the attention, but Black Panther is not my favorite of his.

Message from the King really was more riveting, at least for me. (I might be on the simple side...)

Hard to distinguish; they blend with the same traits (super powers), similar plots (save the world from the villains), and same CDI excellence. Can't keep them separate in the head after too much, and it all becomes boring or not remembered.

IMO.

like those home audio auditions where the system is so bad your teeth are hurting but you still go out of your way to compliment the host (after you drank all his drinks, emptied a fridge and saved his wife's phone number)

But I could say no to about 90% of the films that have been nominated over the last 10 years (or more).

Good post but we're not discussing the movie but affirmative action actually. All objective arguments have no merit against the moral imperatives. Not liking THAT movie should be penalized .

But the three Last Words just prior might have had something to do with it. Annoyed the wife to no end by periodically waking up in a daze and loudly muttering "wtf" is going on".

And may have had an oscar worthy song in Ashes given that it is applicable to the film.

Black Panther was IMO only, rubbish.

I really thought it was good, but mostly forgettable, but it seemed that was against the almost 'forced' popular opinion of the movie. I liked South Park's take on it. I felt the same way about 'Wonder Woman'. I liked 'Deadpool' and really enjoyed 'Logan' and 'Doctor Strange'... oh, and the X-Men movie with the Sentinels (I enjoy the brainier sci-fi stuff). Basically I'm not a comic book guy, but I watch them when they become available in the Red Box or on cable.
