I have been watching a few movies lately and noticed the sub was not turning on when switched to HT mode. I checked all the cables, checked the set up in the 105 set up. All chanels responded fine with the test tone, except the sub. Almost nothing from the sum.

If I manually turn the sub on, I just get a low buzz with the test tone.
The sub is fine when played in 2.1 from my preamp.

Could it be a software issue or will I have to send it to Oppo for service.

How is the sub wired? Mine runs off the second outputs from the preamp and I just set up the HT to have no sub and full range speakers and run the main outputs from the HT processor to the preamp. Then I setup the sub to integrate.

What preamp are you using?

Well, your way is exactly how I have had to go now. I am using a McIntosh c48, and usually use the second set of output to the sub, just for 2.1 listening. For HT I would turn off that second output as the sub output from the Oppo feeds directly to the sub on separate inputs.

It was working fine until the last couple movies I noticed things sounded kind of light in the bass. So I looked and noticed the sub light was not turning green in the auto mode. I then checked all cables, and did the tone test in the Oppo setup to confirm the problem.

I have since tried the setup you describe and found it works well, although I did not change the setting in the Oppo to no sub, I have the fronts as large but never thought the Oppo sent so much bass to the fronts when you select yes for a sub. So I guess I could continue to use it this way, but I would still like to fix it.

Now that I am thinking about it, I wonder if my 2.1 setup been back feeding into the Oppo and fried the Oppo output ?? I have had the Oppo for years and the sub was just for HT strictly. I just recently bought a new sub with balanced and unbalanced inputs and decided to go 2.1 also. Although the Oppo is always off when I play 2.1
The sub is a HSU ULS 15 mk2, I would have to check with them if it's posible for the balanced input to feed back through the unbalanced one.

Well thanks for your thoughts.

Just setting the Oppo to no sub seems like the easy way out and just run everything via the second preamp output.

Yes, you are correct, I am not going to worry about it. That will also eliminate one set of cables, as I am certainly not changing for the 205 any time soon.
