Many TV's have optical audio outputs only, so you might have to use those, as well as an optical to RCA line out converter box. The optical out on TV may be a fixed level, so TV's volume control won't work, so it helps to have a pre-amp/receiver with it's own remote.

I was in the same predicament. Luckily, they invented HDMI ARC.The ARC is an input/output. I hooked the ARC from my TV to my BD player and then use the audio out of my BD player to my integrated amp. It works well for me. Jack
You may have to play with it a bit. I'm using an attic antenna. That goes to my TV. and the ARC form TV to Oppo 103. I don't think if the 83 has ARC. I believe you need ARC at both ends. You can have the cable box to the TV, and you can use the optical out of the TV to your oppo, and the oppo's analog out to your preamp. Sorry I can't be more help. Jack
