Hello
My 10 year old Panasonic plasma has 'distortion' on a section which goes away after the tv warms up.

I went down to Best Buy and was impressed with the Sony xbr-65a8f and Sony xbr-65a9f. These are and the other top of the line tvs show were not inexpensive. I also saw some less expensive tvs at Costco that looked pretty good.

My thought is to go with the xbr-65a8f and save a few dollars. I have a Sonos playbar. Do I gain anything with the xbr-65a9f? Is there anything coming shortly that will make this tv obsolete. Are there any other tvs from LG or Samsung that I should also look at? I am not technical.

The OLED offerings from LG and Sony are the current king. The Samsung QLEDs are close, and cheaper. Visio also makes a QLED. Everything else trails at varying levels.

I went to Best Buys and saw the LG C8 and LG B8 and both were good. I did not see that much difference. I want to think about it but I may go LG. I am hopeful to hear from some people that are living with these and see what they think

Thanks for the info

There is a very good chance the OLED panel in the Sony was made by LG. Also, before you make the move, spend some time with the "smart" functions of both the Sony and LG. LG has a very good rep for their smart functions ... although I've not had the chance to dive into Sony's version myself. A good friend bought the XBR a couple of months ago, but have not been to his place yet to play with it.

The OLED panel in the Sony was definitely made by LG. They are the only one now making OLED panels. Sony uses their own electronics, but one is basically paying a Sony Tax for their OLED.
People need to keep in mind the image retention/burn in issues with OLED. By all accounts, it's worse than with plasma.

I don't have a smart Sony TV but I do have a smart Sony 4K disc player. It's streaming functions are a snap to use and pick up our wifi signal thru 4 walls and 40 ft with no problem.
